Marolton, NJ – The Boise State University Rugby FC is set to join National Collegiate Rugby (NCR).
Coach Matt Dutton says, "Boise State is excited to join NCR in 2021/2022. The past year has provided a tremendous opportunity for reflection and for our club and university to re-center on values, goals and priorities, and aligning with NCR seems right. With strong support internally and externally Boise State is looking forward to a competitive rugby climate with the NCR. We are happy to have found a place where the seasonal format aligns with our academic schedule, allowing us to plan and play 15s and 7s efficiently and economically. With NCR's commitment to providing a quality rugby playoff experience I'm most thrilled for our student-athletes! I know the men are hungry to return to match play.
We are also delighted to take this step forward under NCR stewardship and lead the next generation in the college rugby experience. I'm extremely hopeful universities across the west see the value in investing in college rugby similarly. The potential to link up and connect more efficiently geographically will only enhance the spirit and play of rugby for years to come. We are grateful our league leadership has provided the latitude for our school to choose what right looks like for us."
Currently, Boise State University plays in the Northwest College Rugby Conference (NCRC). In 2021/2022, three of the large schools in the NCRC have elected to move to the NCR. The remaining three have opted to stay USA Rugby oriented. Boise State kicks off the 2021 Fall 15s campaign in September and concludes with the NCR post-season in December. The schedule is anticipated to be announced in the upcoming weeks.
